It might seem like a crazy idea but in these days of catch-up, play-back, action-replay, watch-any-time TV, wouldn't it be great if we had a remote control for the world. And when we wanted to we could point the remote out the window, press 'stop' and everything would come to a halt.

Take today, for instance. The sun is blazing. There's barely a cloud in the sky. It's 22 degrees centigrade and summer has arrived. At last! Indeed, today could be the summer if this week's forecasts of rainy Britain for years to come are to be believed.
